Each year, the Research Department
of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston offers a limited
number of
exciting internships to qualified college students.
Summer internships are full-time paid employment, usually
lasting 10 to 12 weeks.
The Bank also
offers academic-year internships,
ranging from one month to an entire semester, which
almost
always are unpaid and done for academic credit.
Interns
are matched with one or two economists who
conduct research in areas related to the
intern’s field of interest. Interns work
closely with their economist(s) on one or
more ongoing
research projects. At the end of most internships,
interns work with their economists to present
their research to the rest of the department.
The Bank seeks candidates majoring in economics or mathematics. Statistics, computer science, and finance
concentrations are also common. Because quantitative and mathematical skills are essential to our work, we
encourage potential applicants to take advanced math and statistics courses in addition to their coursework in
economics.
- Successful candidates typically have a GPA of 3.3 or higher, good grades in their major/concentration,
and strong computing experience.
- Knowledge of at least one statistical software package or
programming language is highly desirable.
Applications for academic internships (unpaid) are accepted throughout the year.
We are also accepting applications for summer 2009 interships (Deadline is February 28, 2009).
To apply for an internship, please email ResearchIntern.bos@bos.frb.org, indicate whether you are applying for an academic-year or summer internship, and attach following:

areas of special interest in economics.
